Bikingo 3.0.1 (build 303) is prepared for App Store review.
3.0 answered “how much of this ride was new?”. 3.0.1 answers the question that follows: where have I actually been?
Explored is a new row in Statistics. It opens on your distinct ground — every kilometre you have covered, counted once, however many times you have ridden it — and the places that ground is spread across.
The part that took the thinking
Riding in more than one city is where a feature like this usually falls apart. A single map has to zoom out far enough to hold every city you have ridden in, at which point each is a few pixels wide and the screen says nothing. The more you have travelled, the less it would show you.
So Explored is a list of places, each with its own map. Bikingo finds those places in your own riding — it has no notion of what a city is. It looks for ground you have covered thoroughly, and treats the empty country between two such areas as exactly that. A single long ride between two cities leaves a thread of coverage too thin to grow a place, so the cities at either end stay separate.
Release notes
- Added Explored to Statistics: distinct ground covered, and the places it is spread across.
- Added a map for each place, drawing every road you have covered there — street detail zoomed in, a shape zoomed out.
- Added a map preview to each place in the list, showing the shape of your own coverage rather than a repeated icon.
- Made the new-ground pill on a ride a way in: it opens the map for that ride’s place, with the ride drawn on top.
- Added sharing for a place’s map as an image.
- Places are named after their city, and those names are now kept between launches — which means fewer lookups than before, not more.
- Refreshed the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch screenshot set, plus marketing screenshots for App Store and website use.
Nothing here is a target. There is no percentage to chase and no area to complete. Your routes never leave your device.
Short version: Bikingo 3.0.1 turns a statistic on each ride into a picture of your riding life.
